A virtue called patience and a morning walk lesson .
The Morning walk hit differently . A daily routine is now a twice a week routine when the mutt and I set off . The off the mark AQI hasn’t stopped the early morning running folks , nor the throes of devotees that throng the temple of Mumbai ‘s favourite deity.
My knee sleeve slapped , a resolve to brave the smoggy morning which hung like a dystopian post apocalyptic incident , the scent hound’s nose twitching , we were off .
The hound and I are a pair in more ways than one ; early on I was coached as a novice pet parent , that a canine recognises one member as an alpha in the pack . ‘ Amma ‘ replaced alpha as the shenanigans were reserved exclusively for me .
Impatient and hyper which has been often used to describe me now extend to the hound who is a hyper fun impatient ball . Perfectly attuned in our decibel levels , his bark matches my bellow ! Sadly his atopic allergic condition matches my auto immune - something that I’d wish we were never in sync with .
As he discovered the world , the walk brought new discoveries to the both of us .
A slowing down of pace while I navigate the uneven path as he matches mine ;
Discomforts momentarily forgotten as we discovered the beauty of life through the haze ; butterflies dancing , the sliver of the morning light and the birds sing song .
A pause through our walk and as we return to the familiar path , the trepidation of being able to walk the distance receding .
As a founder steering my organisation , I’ve always believed , leadership is learnt , earned and built through lived experiences .Much like the bond between human and canine . Nurtured and built through trust , consistency and discipline .
We continue to walk leadership with trepidation , slow down the pace at moments , find the way to Attunement with teams and discover the beauty of winning moments .
Organisations learn , grow and get better through discoveries -intentional and accidental , a trait that must prevail in individuals . A curiosity , a willingness to learn and discover .
As the mutt and I settle down , my morning brew tastes a little bit sweeter . I feel wiser if only for a moment .
I’m off chasing the mutt who’s runaway with my socks and bottle caps and extrication is the lesson of persuasion and non negotiable moments . Much like driving teams as we work to deliver our consistent best .
On another note , establishing a discipline with the organisation seems far easier than with the mutt !
